Writing Clubs and Associations

Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR)

This intrepid group of writers braves all kinds of weather to meet once a month at 8:30am on a Saturday to hear well respected authors, editors and publishers talk about the business of writing. Attendance typically ranges from 80 to 110 – on a Saturday morning!  And they come from all over southern Ontario. There’s lots of time for networking and the restaurant is big enough to seat everyone comfortably.  This group provides incredible value for writers.  Yes, I’m a member.  Yes, I’m a supporter.

Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC)

PWAC is a national association of professional writers that 23 local chapters in cities across Canada. I belong to the Toronto Chapter, (www.pwactoronto.org) which is the largest, with more than 200 members.  PWAC Toronto holds monthly networking seminar events, except in the summer, to stimulate discussion of business approaches and issues that are interest to professional writers.

PWAC is also an active participant in Magnet, an industry-wide annual conference that gives writers, editors, publishers, distributors and others an opportunity to meet, attend workshops and discuss issues of common concern.
